[edit]Re [1]
Please either use an edit summary, or maybe leave a note on your talk: page to explain why you're removing these (relevant) categories. Otherwise it looks suspicious to other editors, who then have to try and trawl through your edits to work out what you're doing, and whether it's a good edit or not. Clearly it is, but we also get a lot of vandalism (just like this) and they're hard to tell apart without finding the broader context for what's going on - which takes time, especially if a whole bunch of editors (probably some of the busiest) each have to work it out. [edit]Copyright status: File:Minnesota State Capitol-Spring-mural.jpg
| This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Minnesota State Capitol-Spring-mural.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Flickr2Commons
[edit]I have just come across a few images you have recently uploaded from Flickr. I would appreciate it if in the future, you used the Flickr2Commons tool. This tool allows images to be moved to Commons from Flickr without having to download the images to your own computer. It also brings in the largest resolution of the image, as well making sure to list the correct license and url, making it easy for the automated Flickr Review system. Also, it is fairly easy to categorize images with this tool. To use it, you just need to go to the url and authorize it (where it says "authorise first").--A1Cafel (talk) 04:28, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

- Commons:Deletion requests/File:Korean War Memorial, St Paul MN.jpg
- @Myotus- As per your comment (see link above), did you have any response from "Minnesota Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board?"
- Thanks, -- Ooligan (talk) 16:37, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Ooligan,
- Unfortunately the glacial speed of government, and an illness and death in my family has both slowed progress and sidelined me from taking on a more active role for now. There is interest but it takes an engaged role to push forward on this issue. I still think it is worth pursuing but I will have to go at it with more deliberate speed and hope once it is done I can return the images of of the Korean War Memorial. I do think @A1Cafel: has a pretty thankless task ahead of them given that most war and veteran memorials after 1965 are likely under copyright in the US. Myotus (talk) Myotus (talk) 22:26, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
- First, I'm sorry for your loss. I hope that someday you may re-engage in your effort to obtain permission to be able to post this Korean War Memorial on Commons. Thanks for your response. Kind regards, -- Ooligan (talk) 08:26, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Dassel History Center and Ergot Museum-logo.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Dassel History Center and Ergot Museum-logo.png]]) and the above demanded information in your request. |

File:National Eagle Center Logo.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Thanks for uploading File:East Central Minnesota Pride 2025, Pine City, MN-05.jpg.
Thank you. |

Category:LGBTQ_pride_in_cities_&_towns_under_30,000 has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

[edit]Seriously. Commons isn't your personal political platform or project. If you can't approach people or discussions in a civil, neutral way, just don't edit in that area. Your not doing anything by lecturing people about LGBTQ over minor edits except making it that much harder for them to exist in piece on here though. They didn't appoint you to defend them. They probably don't want you to. They don't need you to. Just don't. Your aren't doing jack with the advocating. Seriously, just skip it next time. --Adamant1 (talk) 18:38, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- Please expand on what you mean by this being personal political platform or project. As stated on your end it seems that any mention of, or work on, LGBTQ subjects on Commons is a political issue. Myotus (talk) 21:16, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- Renaming a category isn't inherently political. You attacking me for doing that in a smug, purely performative way to push your version of things instead of finding something that works for everyone and follows the guidelines is. You get the difference? Just to be clear incase you don't get it, advocating for a particular way of doing things based on your own personal feelings and regardless of the guidelines is political POV editing, someone renaming a category so it follows the guidelines isn't. Are we clear about it now? --Adamant1 (talk) 21:23, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
Bemidji Pride
[edit]Please see Commons:Categories#Over-categorization. It goes against the guideline to have both the category for the organization and the events in a category for events, aside from the fact that the organization isn't an event to begin with obviously. Please knock off the ownership. You don't have a monopoly on editing everything having to do with LBGTQ people on here. Stop acting like it. Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 23:12, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
I don't need to discuss adding the category to one for organizations. Stop removing the category. Your the one committing vandalism by removing it. --Adamant1 (talk) 23:18, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Come on. 10,000 or 20,000? Otherwise I'm just going to pick one. --Adamant1 (talk) 21:45, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- Please keep the discussion on the CfD site and be patent. There is no deadline for this and we are volunteers who have other lives. Myotus (talk) 23:12, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- I could have said the same when you were going off on me on my talk page and reporting me to ANU. I would like to be done with this though. Ergo the message here about it. Your the one acting like other people aren't willing to come up with or implement a solution. Why not just pick a number so we can be done with it? Your literally the only one said it should be done based on the population but now you don't actually want to do it when I agree with you to do it that way. Weird. --Adamant1 (talk) 23:35, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!
[edit]
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Monument conservation, repair and maintenance
[edit]Can you please explain these edits: Special:Diff/1097652522, Special:Diff/1097653078? - Jmabel ! talk 23:51, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- Jmabel, I am sorry for the delay in responding back to you. I have been working on the Category Conservation-restoration. The category had become as described, a "muddle" of different kinds of conservation and restoration including nature, wild life, fine art, and architecture.
- I had separated out Architectural conservation-restoration into its own category and then moved Monument conservation, repair and maintenance into it from Conservation-restoration.
- I was taking a strict interpretation to "Monument" 'as a statue, building, or other structure erected to commemorate a famous or notable person or event'. Apparently it is a more loose interpretation including 'any building, megalith, etc., surviving from a past age, and regarded as of historical or archaeological importance, any enduring evidence or notable example of something.' While the Cathedral of Girona does not fit in the first definition it does fall into the second as Spain designates it as "Monument." I have returned the images I had removed from the category. My apologies for the disruption. Myotus (talk) 20:33, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
